World Ozone Day
Observed on 16 Sep every year, the World Ozone Day commemorates the signing of the Montreal Protocol in 1987, where 28 countries agreed to reduce production of harmful ozone layer depleting substances. Since then, the expansion of the hole in the ozone layer has slowed down, from growing at 68% per annum (1979-1989) to 1% per annum (1989-2020). It shows us that, through international co-operation and resolve, the environmental crisis can be managed. It is a shining example of what we can do as stewards of the planet.
