Demand for Designers driven by non-design sectors

With the pandemic hastening digital transformation, a background in graphic design has proven to be a blue-chip investment for designers.

While Marketing and Advertising agencies are where design talents tend to congregate, it is the non-design sectors that are expected to drive design-manpower growth over the next 5 years. The non-design sectors include Education, User Interface (UX) and Mobile App Design.

A study revealed that manpower for designers in non-design industries is set to grow at 7% a year by 2025, compared to 2.4% in the design sector. There is also growing demand for transdisciplinary skills as well as emerging design disciplines such as experience design.

How can design companies embrace the challenges and strategise to stay relevant?
